Romantic Comedy Themes : Hurt her to save her

The dilemma;
            No matter what I do, no matter how hard I try... the ones I love will always be the ones who pay." —Peter Parker
The solution;
           "You're a great actress, Satine. Hurt him. Hurt him to save him." —Harold Zidler, Moulin Rouge!

     You are Peter Parker ,you are passionate about Mary Jane , but being with you put her life at risk, so you tried to reason with her but she is a class 3 clinger, now plan B.
             You start avoiding her,lie to her, pretend to be mean, once or twice play the "we are so different" card; to sum up you have to be cruel to save her.
        The fact that in all three spider man movies at the final stand off Mary Jane was held hostage, makes a strong case for his behavior. Even Pavlov's dog would have guessed the association by then
          Batman actually succeeded in chasing Rachel away ,only to loose her in a similar situation with Harvey. Harvey should have done better, another case of slow learning.

similar scenarios in movies are
  • Charlie Babbit in Rain man,but you know Raymond,he don't care
  • Twilight ,relation between Bella and her dad
  • Was spoofed in 30 Rock, Arrested development and a bunch of others
  • Teardrop character in Winters Bone , beating the living hell out of his niece to prevent her from engaging in pursuit of her father
  • Tremors. Valentine elbows Earl in the stomach to stun him so Valentine can risk his life running to the tractor to save everyone,crazier than thou.
                     Jessica Rabbit: So I hit him on the head with a frying pan and stuffed him in the trunk. So he wouldn't get hurt.
Eddie Valiant: Makes perfect sense.
—Who Framed Roger Rabbit
