Romantic Comedy Themes : Hate Them Love Them

We can’t stand them, we can’t stand people talking about them. Hell we can’t even stand ourselves thinking about them. It’s often difficult to make an enemy a friend. The kind of transition that usually takes a while; ego and pride being the main reason why. But once you cross the bad waters, it usually turns out they weren’t all that bad after all.Now take it to the next level, actually skip another level and picture them as our exes. Sorry ,winning huh..

This theme based on the old age concept of opposite poles attract. But why ? "our natural attraction to our opposites is a subconscious way of forcing us to deal with the weaker aspects of our own nature" as explained during first session of their counseling .
Usually there will be great deal of friction between the characters mounting to a point "where you can  cut the sexual tension between them with a knife".Then with a shut up kiss or some other lucky break they end up together. If the movie is carrying on beyond this point you can expect a big bad breakup followed by the appearance of a mysterious ex lover. Then it becomes his duty to prove that he is a bigger jerk than our love wrecked hero and bring them back together.
Then there is the party girl vs shy boy theme. Charmingly done in 500 days o summer.
Almost every teen movie employ  this theme atleast as a backdrop story if not the main theme. We can find
jock/nerd, and all other possible combinations, if you are not convinced try to get a hold of "not another teen movie".
Similar theme is used in most buddy comedies to the point where i cant remember a movie with two similar characters as leads. This was spoofed hilariously in loaded gun and stakeout.
romance movies with this theme are
  • Romeo and Juliet, of course the ones who started it
  • Its a boy girl thing ,
  • Along came Polly
  • A walk to remember
  • Sweet home Alabama
  • Van wilder
  • Two weeks notice
  • (500) Days Of Summer
  • What happens in Vegas,And a lot of others
Any way it is said that two opposite personality types are more likely to be successful at a romantic relationship than at  work. Still those buddy comedies are fun, no?
